Student Blog Contest Winner (Intermediate): Growth

It seems like it was yesterday, but it was a few years ago, to be exact it was five years ago when I started my journey to what would be the best summer of my life. In September 2016 I started my process and applied to work at a summer camp as a Camp Counselor with the company called "Instituto Step Up" this organization has a program called ICCP (International Camp Counselor Program) that prepares young adults people to be a Camp Counselor in the USA, at that time I didn't know what state it would be in, as my fist international travel, all knew was it would be a big challenge because I had to figure out a lot of things before the summer begins such as rescheduling my work, visa, improve my English level, confidence to do what I had need to do and etc. I did some interviews and I was selected to attend a special needs summer camp in California near San Francisco, an inclusive camp for children and adults with disabilities called Tuolumne Trails. I would be lying if I said it didn't scare me at first, because I've never had contact with anyone with special needs at that time. I landed at San Francisco airport on June 21st of 2017. My first session at camp was the most challenging because everything was really weird; people were too different for me, but while the time was passing, during the activities (board games, swimming pool, campfire, archery, skit) I had the chance to talk with the campers and learn a lot about their thoughts and life goals. While I was experiencing this amazing personal growth I had the opportunity to visit two of what I believe to be the most incredible places in the USA called Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks famous for their amazing natural beauty, waterfalls, mountains, and the biggest trees of the world ( google it). I grew up as never before with what I inherited from campers and visiting those places. It really marked me and it changed my perspective on life since then. I had a lot of fun with those such special fellas in the summer of 2017.
