Why studying English can help you succeed in the U.S

Learning English can be a life changing decision. A lot of countries across the world teach English in their schools as a second or foreign language, which means that even in countries where it is not the dominant language, it is still seen as valuable. Now, think about living in an English-speaking country, like here in the United States of America?

It is more than valuable; it is essential, and it can make you succeed in all aspects of your life. In this short article, I am going to show you why studying English can help you succeed in the US.

The United States is known around the world as the land of opportunity. It is a land built by immigrants that have prospered through hard work and determination. It is also the largest economy in the world, surpassing other nations. If you come to this country and put your mind to it, you can reach a lot of great things.

According to the web site immigration.laws.com, studies have shown that the most important factor in determining the economic success of immigrants in the United States is their ability to speak English. One study has shown that immigrants can increase their earnings by 20 percent by improving their English language speaking ability from “not well” to “very well.”

As it was mentioned before, this country is the land of opportunities. Probably you have already noticed the several possibilities to do business in the US market, so a solid domain of the English language will be necessary for you to succeed. The opportunities for business growth or even gainful employment are greater for English-speaking people. The US has the highest concentration of consumers in the world and controls most of the market-share in many sectors worldwide.

When we talk about succeeding, this includes all aspects of your life. Your career is important, but your personal life is also essential. We need to have friends and people around us. Knowing English can help you meet new people and build lasting relationships with your new neighbors, co-workers, classmates, etc.  Adapting to a new country or situation can be difficult. Having a supportive community around you is important. This is easier to accomplish if you can communicate with other people effectively.

The last thing that I consider important to mention here is that around eighty per cent of academic papers and journals are written in English. If you plan on continuing your education, learning English cannot only help you do research but help you get your research published and read.

In conclusion, if you left your home country and came to the US, you have goals, it does not matter what kind of goals they are. Learning the language it is spoken here will help you achieve your goals faster. Just keep in mind that being able to read, listen, speak and understand everything you want, can expand your knowledge on things that interest you and improve your quality of life in your new home.
