Studying abroad can be exciting and challenging at the same time. Immersing yourself in a new environment and culture is an experience that requires getting out of your comfort zone. We understand that many of you may struggle with anxiety and uncertainty when you leave your home country. In this section we are going to help you with small actions to overcome adversities and fears so you can make studying abroad a memorable experience.

If you are facing culture shock and language barriers while having a conversation, for instance, do not let the frustration get you down. Instead, keep your mind open, and do not be afraid to make mistakes while you talk with native speakers. Remember that practice makes perfect. Be curious and look up applications that can help you to learn such as Duolingo.

Making friends as an international student is another challenge that you may encounter. Often, situations can be tricky;  for example, it can be difficult to understand jokes and to know what the right places are to catch up with new friends. But do not worry, be yourself and do not lose your essence. Try to participate in small groups inside your community and gradually you will find a way to socialize with others.

Keep going and remember why you started

It is important to remember where you came from and who you are. Fears are just barriers that need to be overcome with the right attitude. Be strong and do not let them affect the progress of your dreams and goals in life. Do something today that your future self will thank you for. You will realize that this experience can transform you, and will provide you with more skills to face the adversities in your life.
